Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 3, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what happens to your data when you use SplitVocals (splitvocals.com). The short version: your audio never leaves your device. The rest of this page explains that in detail, plus the small amount of standard web analytics and advertising that supports the free service.
1. Your audio is never uploaded
SplitVocals separates audio entirely inside your web browser, using WebGPU or WebAssembly to run an AI model on your own CPU or GPU. When you select or drop a file, it is read directly by your browser and never transmitted to SplitVocals’ servers or any third party. We have no upload endpoint for audio files, no server-side processing pipeline, and consequently no way to access, view, or store the content of any file you process. You can independently verify this by opening your browser’s developer tools to the Network tab while separating a track — you will see no outgoing request carrying your audio.
2. What we store
We do not operate user accounts, so we do not collect names, email addresses, or audio files in connection with using the separator. Separated stems, mixdowns, and any in-progress audio exist only in your browser’s memory for the duration of your session and are discarded when you close or reload the page.
3. The AI model cache
The first time you separate a track, your browser downloads the AI model (roughly 170 MB) and stores it in your browser’s local cache (via the standard Cache API / service worker storage) so future separations, including offline, don’t need to re-download it. This cached file lives only on your device, under your browser’s own storage controls — you can clear it at any time through your browser’s site data settings.
4. Analytics
We use standard web analytics to understand aggregate usage of the site — for example, which pages are visited and how the site performs — using tools such as Google Analytics 4 and Microsoft Clarity. These tools may set cookies or use similar local storage in your browser and collect information such as your approximate location (derived from IP address), device and browser type, pages visited, and general interaction patterns (Clarity may also record anonymized session replays and click/scroll heatmaps to help us improve the interface). This analytics data describes how the site is used; it does not include the content of any audio file you process, because that content never reaches our servers.
You can opt out of this analytics collection by using your browser’s cookie or tracking protection settings, a browser extension that blocks analytics scripts, or Google’s own Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on. Blocking analytics does not affect the audio separation feature, which runs locally regardless.
5. Advertising
To help keep SplitVocals free, we may display advertising from a third-party ad network on the results page after a separation completes. That network may use cookies or similar identifiers to serve and measure ads and may collect standard advertising data (such as device type, approximate location, and ad interaction) under its own privacy policy. Advertising is never shown inside the file you download, and ad scripts have no access to your audio file or the separated output, which remain local to your browser.
6. Cookies
SplitVocals itself does not require cookies to function — the separator works with cookies disabled. The analytics and advertising described above may set their own cookies. You can review, block, or delete cookies at any time through your browser settings; doing so will not prevent you from splitting audio.
7. Children’s privacy
SplitVocals is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because the service does not collect personal information as part of its core function, this is primarily relevant to the third-party analytics and advertising described above.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the service or applicable law. Material changes will be reflected by an updated “Last updated” date at the top of this page.
