Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains what happens to your data when you use SplitVocals (splitvocals.com). The short version: in the free separator your audio never leaves your device; if you sign in and choose HD separation, one file is uploaded to our private storage, processed, and deleted within about an hour. The rest of this page explains that in detail, plus what an account stores and the standard analytics and advertising that support the free service.

1. Free separation: your audio is never uploaded

The default separator runs entirely inside your web browser, using WebGPU or WebAssembly to run an AI model on your own CPU or GPU. When you select or drop a file, it is read directly by your browser and never transmitted to SplitVocals’ servers or any third party. You can verify this by opening your browser’s developer tools to the Network tab while separating a track — you will see no outgoing request carrying your audio. Separated stems, mixdowns, and any in-progress audio exist only in your browser’s memory for the duration of your session and are discarded when you close or reload the page.

2. HD separation: what is uploaded, and for how long

HD separation is optional and available only to signed-in users. When you choose it, your browser uploads the selected file (up to 50 MB) directly to a private storage bucket we operate on Cloudflare R2. A GPU server we run on Modal (United States) downloads the file, runs the separation, and writes the resulting stems back to the same private storage. You download the results through time-limited signed links that only your session can use. The uploaded file and the results are deleted automatically about 60 minutes after the job completes (and no later than 24 hours in any case, by a storage lifecycle rule). Nobody at SplitVocals listens to or reviews your audio, it is never shared or published, and it is not used to train any model.

We keep a record of each HD job — the file name, file size, job status, timestamps, and which account ran it — for accounting, credit refunds, and abuse prevention. This record contains no audio.

3. Accounts

You can use the free separator without an account. If you sign in with Google, we receive and store your name, email address, and profile picture from Google, together with the time your account was created, your preferred language, and the tokens needed to keep you signed in. We also store session information (a session token, the IP address and browser used to sign in) to protect your account. We do not receive or store your Google password. You can ask us to delete your account and its data at any time by emailing support@splitvocals.com; HD job records that we must keep for accounting may be retained in anonymized form.

4. Credits, purchases, and payments

Your account holds an HD credit balance and a history of credit grants and uses. If you buy an HD Pack or a Pro subscription, payment is processed by Creem, our payment partner and merchant of record. Creem collects your payment details under its own privacy policy; SplitVocals never sees or stores your card number. We receive and store the order and subscription details needed to provide what you bought: the product, amount, currency, order and subscription identifiers, the email address used at checkout, and the subscription’s status and renewal dates.

If you leave your email address on the pricing page to be notified when payments open, we store that address for that purpose only and delete it when you ask.

5. The AI model cache

The first time you separate a track in free mode, your browser downloads the AI model (roughly 170 MB) and stores it in your browser’s local cache so future separations, including offline, don’t need to re-download it. This cached file lives only on your device, under your browser’s own storage controls — you can clear it at any time through your browser’s site data settings.

6. Analytics

We use standard web analytics to understand aggregate usage of the site — for example, which pages are visited, how far a separation gets, and how the site performs — using Google Analytics 4 and Microsoft Clarity. These tools may set cookies or use similar local storage in your browser and collect information such as your approximate location (derived from IP address), device and browser type, pages visited, and general interaction patterns (Clarity may also record anonymized session replays and click/scroll heatmaps to help us improve the interface). This analytics data describes how the site is used; it never includes the content of any audio file you process.

You can opt out of analytics collection by using your browser’s cookie or tracking protection settings, a browser extension that blocks analytics scripts, or Google’s own Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on. Blocking analytics does not affect the separator.

7. Advertising

To help keep the free separator free, we display advertising from a third-party ad network (Adsterra) on the results page after a free separation completes. Pro subscribers do not see ads. The ad network may use cookies or similar identifiers to serve and measure ads and may collect standard advertising data (such as device type, approximate location, and ad interaction) under its own privacy policy. Ad scripts run in an isolated frame and have no access to your audio file or the separated output.

8. Service providers

We rely on the following providers to run SplitVocals; each processes data only as needed to provide its service to us: Vercel (website hosting), Neon (account database), Cloudflare (domain, DNS, and HD file storage), Modal (GPU processing for HD separation), Google (sign-in and analytics), Microsoft (Clarity analytics), Adsterra (advertising), and Creem (payments). Most of these providers operate servers in the United States, so if you use SplitVocals from elsewhere your account and HD data will be transferred there.

9. Cookies

The free separator itself does not require cookies — it works with cookies disabled. Signing in sets a session cookie so we can recognize your account. The analytics and advertising described above may set their own cookies. You can review, block, or delete cookies at any time through your browser settings; doing so will not prevent you from splitting audio in free mode.

10. Your rights

You can access the account data we hold by signing in and visiting your account page. You can ask us to correct or delete your data, or to export it, by emailing support@splitvocals.com from the address on your account. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or LGPD; we will honor them as they apply.

11. Children’s privacy

SplitVocals is not directed at children under 13, we do not allow them to create accounts, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the service or applicable law. Material changes will be reflected by an updated “Last updated” date at the top of this page.
